This popular tropical shrub has many common names, such as the Red Bird of Paradise, Peacock Flower and the Pride of Barbados (it is the Barbadian national flower). It is native to America and can grow up to 3 metres in height.
A very popular ornamental shrub, it is used extensively in South East Asian public and domestic gardens, and has striking yellow orange vibrant bloom.
Caesalpinia Pulcherrima has also been noted for its medicinal value; the juice of the leaves has been used by Amazon natives to help cure various fever, and the seeds are thought to be an aid to chest problems and bad coughing.
