This hardwood pergola was designed and constructed by the Thai Garden Design team for a recent project taking place in Bang Saen, Chonburi. This pergola doubles up as an attractive long term weather projection, helping to block the sun and keep the rain out in key areas (certain sections have a poly carbonate roofing installed).
The pergola is strong – with footings on both sides of the walkway, as well as anchored into the side of the house. The team also laid concrete steps and walking platforms around the whole outside of the house, allowing ease of access and opening up all this previously unused space.
Parts of the walkway were tiled with attractive dark patterned tiles, with other parts a natural black slate, coated with sealant for longevity. The darkness of the walkways will really help show up the planned ground covers and shrubs, that the owner plans to plant at a later date.
As the pergola reaches the main garden, a covered 'social' area with an pergola, and slate terrace extend out into the main garden, offering a perfect sitting platform to view the newly installed landscape (view post here). The pergola is also fitted with electrical utilities, including fans and lighting, all installed by the Thai Garden Design team.
The new pergola has helped to transform the home, offering shade and shelter from the weather, and is also a great platform for growing up foliage and attractive creeper plants, which in time will produce their own uniques scents and colours.
