The team at Thai Garden Design were called to visit this new home in Rayong, Thailand, so design a new garden. The new plan included a large traditional Thai sala as a central feature of the garden, with a small foot bridge across a meandering pond, planting, and new gardens around the side gardens of the home.
The sala represented the largest most complicated feature of the job. The team constucted the sala ontop of a piled, reinforced concrete foundation. All the wood is reclaimed hardwood, sanded down and treated by the team (back to as good as new). The sala is raised and so the family 'step up' into the sala.
On all four sides are large, lean-back bench seats, and electrical switches, plug sockets and all the associated wiring came as standard (with the owner supplying their own fixtures, fitted by the team).
The roof is built in a traditional Thai style, with fishscale type tiles, and constructed with two roof levels (upper level and lower level), so hot air rises to the top section, and keeps the inside of the sala cooler. The whole sala is then re-sanded and painted stained for protection.
Finally this part of the garden was cleared, re-graded with soil and sand and new grass installed and rolled. New planting around the sala and the garden will grow and thrive in time.
