An essential part of the landscape in this garden (part one here) is the filter system for the koi pond. In order to keep koi fish, it is important to have a well constructed filter, near to the main body of the pond. They are generally fairly large (depending on the size of the main pond) and so can be conveniently concealed underneath a deck.
(Picture above: during the installation) In this example, the main pond would be surrounded by composite wood decking, with a bridge, and bench seating, leading to the front door of the house. A waterfall was also present at the furthest end.
This filter contains a series of chambers each with their own filter media, biological (natural) filtration, and UV lighting, all working to keep the water clean. When the water reaches the final chamber, it is pumped back into the pond.
(Picture above: Nearing completion, the filter and deck construction) Access panels were built into the deck as part of the deck design, so the filter is easily accessed from above.
(Picture above: Unplanted waterfall in the background, with decked area and bench seating visible) The filter will keep the water clean, assisted by the waterfall which helps to oxygenate the water, helping the fish to thrive.

So happy with what you’ve done here. I always wanted to have a pond at my house, wish I can have like yours there.
