Perlite is a 100% natural volcanic mineral, expanded through high-temperature heating to create lightweight, sponge-like white granules. It is widely used as a soil conditioner to improve aeration, drainage, and root health.

With excellent water retention but fewer pores than vermiculite, perlite helps balance the water-to-air ratio in substrates while preventing soil compaction. It is neutral to slightly acidic, has no cation exchange capacity, and is completely sterile and weed-free.

Perlite is suitable for use alone or mixed with soil, coco peat, or vermiculite, and is especially popular in hydroponics systems to provide oxygen to plant roots.
