This evergreen tropical shrub is widely seen growing in many rural and urban gardens throughout Thailand and along roadsides…. It is often found as a large shrub but can, with time, also grow into a small tree.
It is distinctive for its small, funnel-shaped yellow flowers and bushy, long, waxy green leaves. The Yellow orleanda also bears a luminous green fruit, within which the seeds can be processed and used in heart medicines, although the rest of the plant in natural form remains quite poisonous.
The Yellow orleanda does better in full sun and dry sandy soil, making it a popular screener, or privacy plant along the front of Thai homesteads.
Thevetia is originally thought to originate in Central America.
